Is 400 mg of Cyclogest too much progesterone and should I continue taking Pregnovit with so much Vitamin A?

I am six weeks pregnant. I have had two sub-clinical (chemical) pregnancies before because my hcG level was too low. Things seem to be working out fine this time. My doctor has given me Cyclogest 400mg. I just wanted to ask if 400mg is too much progesterone or okay in my case? I was also recommended Pregnovit which contains 6000 I.U. of Vitamin A (BP). Is that a lot of Vitamin A? I am concerned because Vitamin A has been associated with birth defects. Should I continue taking Pregnovit with so much Vitamin A?

Cyclogest is frequently used in women who have had previous miscarriages and does not have harmful side effects. It may help to maintain the pregnancy. I would encourage you to follow your doctor's advice. The usual dose of Cyclogest is 400mg once or twice daily. As far as vitamin A is concerned, the maximum daily supplement of vitamin A to be recommended at any time during pregnancy is 10000 IU. Potential risk of adverse effects increases only with doses higher than 10,000IU daily. Since Pregnovit contains 6000IU of vitamin A, it should not cause any harmful effects on the baby.
