Being a stay at home mom has many benefits. If you are able to stay-at-home while your child is growing up it can have huge benefits for your child. Not only is staying at home good for the child, but it is also good for the mother and the rest of the family.
Benefits during Infant and Toddler-hood
Mother and infant bonding is very important. The bonding between mother and child lays the foundation for building trust. Bonding starts at birth and continues for at least the first six months of the baby’s life. An infant will have the strongest bond with the individual who is there the most. When a mother goes to work she may no longer be the infant’s primary caregiver and the bond between mother and child may not be as strong.
The stay-at-home mom gets to see her infant grow into toddler-hood and not miss the baby’s milestones. Mom is able to hear the first words and see the first time the infant rolls over. She knows which foods her baby likes because she is the one who fed the fruits, vegetables and other foods to her baby in the first place. The mother does not go to pick her baby up at day care and hear “Johnny took his first steps today”.
Infants progress into toddler-hood with mom having the role of teacher. Mom teaches her toddler to speak in full sentences, colors, shapes and many other skills that will be important when the little one reaches preschool age. The mother also starts to teach the toddler right from wrong and what is safe and not safe. The morals and values of the mother also start to sink in at this age.
Benefits throughout School
The stay-at-home mom is able to go to many school related events that working moms may not be able to attend. Many classes hold plays and other events that parents are invited to. A lot of children play after school sports and join clubs. Sports and after school activities usually require parents to pick children up at the school when the activity is done. If the parents are unable to do this, sometimes the children are not able to participate. If mom is able to stay at home, she can pick up the child from after school activities and go to any scheduled games.
Children sometimes get sick while they are at school and need to be picked up. Mom will be able to pick up the child and be at home to care for him while he is sick.
The stay-at-home mom is better able to monitor her child’s activities. She can keep an eye on what her child is watching, playing for games and doing on the Internet. Mom also has a better idea of the activities her child does outside the home and school.
Benefits for the Family
Being a stay-a- home mom benefits the whole family. Mom is able to keep the house clean and the laundry done. She is there to make sure her family has proper meals. She has more time to deal with the family finances and make sure that important errands get done and bills get paid.
